Established in 2012 by Pro Cut Lawn & Landscape, the Green Fund has given over $10,000 in cash and in-kind services to ‘green’ projects in the community. For its fifth year, the Green Fund expanded its impact by partnering with another fund at the community for environmental projects (funded by individual donations) and the Red Lodge High School Green Team. This partnership gave students the opportunity to become philanthropists –weighing and leveraging resources to make a large ‘green’ impact in our community.
The Pro Cut Team and the High School Green Team ranked a total of nine applications seeking over $9,000 in funding. They funded the following for organizations for a total of $2,000:
- Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation, $750: Hosting a Community Trails Day on DATE focused on engaging high school students and the general public as stewards of our trails.
- Beartooth Front Community Forum, $500: Hosting a free, public forum titled, ‘Knowing the land: Public Lands, Outdoor Recreation, Stewardship, and Gateway Communities’ on May 19th and 20th.
- Carbon County Resource Council, $350: Beginning the discussion and planning to create a community composting system.
- Red Lodge Youth Garden, $400: Preparing the garden for a new growing season with seeds, soil amendments, and general supplies.
Donations made at the Before the Flood movie premier last Thursday are going to help make the program happen again next year. The Green Fund is also a Fun Run participant. For questions about the program, please contact the Foundation at 446-2820.
